How was built the questionnaire

Nowadays, most questionnaires concerning career choices are based on the Holland personnality type method also called RIASEC which was built in the 60's. Each vocationnal personnality type is represented by a letter.

This method which is quite interested seems out of date now as it was built in a very different economical environment . For example, for Holland 40% of the population is "realistic", this means that they should work in manual jobs. If you are ............. and you fill this questionnaire, it may tell you that you should become a farmer, even if this job doesn't interest you at all.

Many personnality questionnaires try to measure the interest of students for some activities. You could be told that you should become a sound engineer or any such specific job. To say that someone is meant to choose such a specific career when we now know that the evolution of society will lead to the change of jobs every 10 years seems a bit overdone.

Moreover, to have interests in a field doesn't necessarily mean that jobs concerning this field will be motivating. You can have a passion for horses without finding jobs linked to horses that will be satisfying.

Since we started, we have helped students who needed assistance in their career research. Luckily, one of the students had filled 3 questionnaires and followed exactly what was said in the questionnaires concerning his career choices. After 3 failures due to the fact that the choices given were inapropriate to his inner personnality, we have helped him, working with our personal career profile, in order for him to get in touch with who he really was. Our goal was to help him find his strong points and his inner self, then he would find the positive and appropriate guidance that would allow him to succeed and realise what he wants.

Our process is to help students identify the job that will suit them.
